Case Study: Innovative Solar PV and Battery Storage Solution

Introduction

In the face of challenges such as limited suitable roof space and an existing solar PV system benefiting from the government Feed-in Tariff (FIT) incentive scheme, our customer sought a unique energy solution. With a ground source heat pump and a fixed income, the goal was to minimize energy costs and enhance self-sufficiency.

  1. Identifying Under-Utilised Land

The absence of suitable south-facing roofs led us to explore unconventional options. Through careful analysis, we identified an under-utilized piece of land within the customer’s boundary. This allowed us to propose a 5kw ground-mounted Solar PV system, strategically positioned for maximum solar generation and minimal shading.

  1. Multi-Functional Ground-Mounted Solar Array

The ground-mounted solar array not only became a robust energy solution but also served a dual purpose. Its rear section transformed into a practical storage area for the customer’s canoes and miscellaneous items, showcasing the versatility of our approach.

  1. Comprehensive Solar PV and Battery System Integration

Our in-house team executed the design and installation of an MCS-approved Solar PV system. The addition of an AC-coupled GivEnergy 19kw battery system provided energy storage and acted as a backup supply during power outages, ensuring uninterrupted power availability.

  1. Intelligent Energy Management with MyEnergi Devices

To optimise energy usage further, we integrated a MyEnergi Eddi micro-energy diverter for heating hot water with excess generated energy. Additionally, a MyEnergi Zappi EV Charger was installed in anticipation of the customer’s future electric vehicle, contributing to a holistic and sustainable energy ecosystem.

  1. User-Friendly Monitoring and Control

The customer gained control over the entire system with the integration of a user-friendly app. This allowed real-time monitoring and control of energy generation, consumption, and storage, providing a seamless and intuitive experience.

  1. Cost-Effective Installation under Renewable Incentive Scheme

The entire installation, including the Solar PV system, battery storage, and associated devices, benefited from the government’s current renewable incentive scheme, making it a cost-effective and VAT-free investment.
